Key Reasons Behind Today's Market Movement

1. Global Market Cues

Global markets played a crucial role in shaping today's positive momentum:

  • US Markets: U.S. stock markets experienced a strong rally, spurred by President Donald Trump's decision to temporarily relax tariffs, including those affecting smartphones and electronics. The move helped boost major indexes.

    - Dow Jones: 40,524.79 (+0.8%)
    - Nasdaq: 16,831.48 (+0.6%)

The rally was driven by optimism following the tariff exemptions, although uncertainty over future trade policies kept gains in check.

  • Asian Markets: Asian markets showed mixed performance amid hopes for more U.S. tariff exemptions:

    - Nikkei: 34,652.80 (+0.15%)
    - Hang Seng: 21,466.27 (+0.23%)
    - Shanghai Composite: 3,562.42 (+1.31%)

2. FII & DII Activity (14th April 2025)

FIIs: Net sellers, withdrawing ₹2,519 Cr.
DIIs: Net buyers, investing ₹3,759.3 Cr.

4. Macro & Economic Factors Impacting the Market

  • Rupee Movement: The Indian Rupee is likely to be influenced by international uncertainty from changing U.S. tariff policies. Although the U.S. dollar has weakened slightly, the market remains hesitant. The rupee ended last Friday at 86.04, a decline of 0.9% for the week. Analysts are projecting the rupee to trade in a range of 85.70 and 86.70 this holiday-shortened week

  • Crude Oil Prices: As of 15 April 2025, Brent crude oil prices were little changed, closing at $64.88 per barrel on the day. The small uptick may be due to a couple of factors: one being exemptions from U.S. tariffs for certain electronics, the other being a rebound in China's crude imports. Both factors ultimately impacted prices positively, but the shadow of the U.S.-China trade war regarding the economic tide began to limit gains.

  • Inflation Data: India's wholesale inflation fell to its lowest level in four months, at 2.5% (year-on-year) in March 2025 from 2.38% in February, and below the economists' expectation of 2.5%. The decline in inflation was mainly due to food prices rising at a slower pace, with wholesale food inflation at 4.66% in March from 5.94% in February.

5. Market Sentiment & Key Triggers

  1. Corporate Earnings: Infosys is scheduled to announce its Q4 FY25 results on 17 April 2025. Experts anticipate a revenue decline between 0.5% to 2.3% in constant currency terms, citing seasonal weakness and lower revenues from the sale of third-party items for service delivery.

  2. IPO Watch: Inox Green Energy shares surged 20% on 15 April 2025, rising for a second day amid news that a group firm, Inox Clean Energy, is preparing for a ₹5,000-crore IPO via the confidential route, aiming to become the group's fifth listed entity

Conclusion & Investment Strategy

On 15 April 2025, Indian markets rebounded strongly, driven by a temporary pause in U.S. tariffs and positive global cues. While this provides short-term relief, investors should remain cautious of ongoing global trade tensions and potential volatility.
