KNR Constructions: Business Overview & Financial Analysis
KNR Constructions is an infrastructure engineering and construction company with more than 30 years of project execution experience. Its core operations cover roads and highways, irrigation and water infrastructure, urban infrastructure, and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) projects, while commercial mining has emerged as a new business vertical. The company has executed projects across 12 Indian states and is evaluating opportunities in railways, metro infrastructure and other adjacent infrastructure segments.
KNR Constructions Business and Execution Profile (Q1 FY27)
As of June 2026, KNR Constructions had an established infrastructure execution platform spanning EPC, HAM and mining projects. Roads remain its traditional business, while mining has materially increased the diversification of the outstanding project portfolio.
- Execution experience: More than 30 years in infrastructure development.
- Road projects executed: More than 9,127 lane-km across India.
- Geographic presence: Projects executed across 12 states.
- HAM/BOT portfolio: 2 annuity projects and 6 existing HAM projects were disclosed in the Q1 FY27 presentation.
- Core business areas: Roads and highways, irrigation, water pipelines, urban infrastructure and commercial mining.
- Emerging areas: Railway civil works, elevated metro infrastructure and selected adjacent infrastructure opportunities are being evaluated.
The expansion into mining and other infrastructure categories is gradually reducing dependence on conventional road EPC projects, while the company's existing engineering capabilities continue to form the base for new verticals.
KNR Constructions Order Book (Q1 FY27)
The executable order book stood at Rs 8,667.4 crore as of 30 June 2026. Mining had already become the largest individual segment, while roads, irrigation and pipelines provided diversification across the remaining portfolio.
- Total executable order book: Rs 8,667.4 crore as of 30 June 2026.
- Mining: 41% of the order book.
- Irrigation: 19%.
- Roads – Other projects: 16%.
- Roads – HAM projects: 14%.
- Pipeline projects: 10%.
- Regional mix: South India contributed 59% and East India 41%.
- Client mix: Around 42% each came from State and Central Government projects, 14% from captive HAM projects and around 2% from others.
The mix shows that mining has become a major source of long-duration revenue visibility, while government infrastructure contracts continue to dominate the overall project portfolio.
KNR Constructions Recent Project Wins and Order Pipeline (Q1 FY27)
Projects secured but not yet included in the 30 June 2026 executable order book had a combined value of about Rs 6,566.6 crore. Including these projects, management indicated a total order book of approximately Rs 15,234 crore.
- Kusmunda coal project: Coal mining and associated overburden-removal work at Kusmunda OCP in Chhattisgarh, to be executed with Sushee Infra & Mining over an eight-year period.
- East Coast Road project: Four-lane elevated corridor from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi in Tamil Nadu under HAM, with a disclosed project value of about Rs 1,679.9 crore.
- NH-167 project: Four-laning of the Gudebellur-Mahabubnagar section in Telangana under HAM, valued at about Rs 1,570 crore.
- New projects not included in the June order book: Around Rs 6,566.6 crore.
- Total order book including these wins: Around Rs 15,234 crore.
- Order book including new wins: Roads represented around 38%, irrigation 11%, pipelines 6% and mining 45%.
- FY27 order-inflow target: Management indicated a target of around Rs 8,000-10,000 crore.
Management expects the non-mining portion of the portfolio to be executed over roughly three to three-and-a-half years, while mining contracts have longer execution periods of five to eight years.
KNR Constructions HAM Project Portfolio (Q1 FY27)
KNR Constructions continued execution across six existing HAM projects during Q1 FY27. Three projects were substantially or fully completed, while the Mysore-Kushalnagara packages remained at earlier stages of execution.
- Ramanattukara-Valanchery: 100% physical progress as of June 2026.
- Valanchery-Kappirikkad: 100% physical progress.
- Magadi-Somwarpet: Around 91.4% physical progress.
- Marripudi-Somvarappadu: Around 86% physical progress.
- Mysore-Kushalnagara Package V: Around 18.3% physical progress.
- Mysore-Kushalnagara Package IV: Around 20.1% physical progress.
Management indicated that land availability had previously constrained progress on the Mysore-Kushalnagara packages, but execution had started accelerating after additional land became available.
KNR Constructions Q1 FY27 Financial Performance
Q1 FY27 showed lower revenue but improved reported standalone EBITDA margin. Reported standalone PAT was significantly affected by an exceptional gain arising during the quarter, making the headline profit figure less representative of normal EPC operations.
- Standalone revenue: Rs 436.69 crore, down 10% YoY and 18% QoQ.
- Standalone EBITDA: Rs 65.50 crore, broadly flat YoY.
- Standalone EBITDA margin: 15%, compared with 13.6% in Q1 FY26.
- Standalone PAT: Rs 282.27 crore, including an exceptional item of around Rs 285.33 crore.
- Consolidated revenue: Rs 587.94 crore, down 4% YoY.
- Consolidated EBITDA: Rs 96.43 crore, down 47% YoY, with a 16.4% margin.
- Consolidated PAT: Rs 80.72 crore, down 35% YoY.
- Underlying standalone EBITDA margin: Management indicated around 5.5% after adjusting for the transaction-related one-off recorded in Q1.
Management disclosed that the Q1 EBITDA included a net one-off benefit of around Rs 46 crore linked to the asset transaction, which materially lifted the reported standalone operating margin.
KNR Constructions Asset Monetisation (Q1 FY27)
KNR Constructions continued its strategy of monetising mature HAM assets to recycle capital. During Q1 FY27, two SPVs were transferred to Indus Infra Trust, generating sizeable proceeds compared with the original equity and subordinated-debt investments.
- KNR Palani Infra: Around Rs 64 crore had been invested through equity and subordinated debt.
- Palani transaction consideration: Around Rs 295 crore, including approximately Rs 90 crore of cash surplus.
- KNR Ramagiri Infra: Approximately Rs 83 crore had been invested.
- Ramagiri transaction consideration: Around Rs 227 crore.
- Broader monetisation plan: Share purchase agreements were signed for four SPVs with aggregate equity/subordinated-debt investment of approximately Rs 556.7 crore and disclosed aggregate consideration of about Rs 1,559.7 crore.
Asset monetisation allows the company to release capital from operational road assets and redeploy funds towards new HAM equity commitments, mining equipment and other infrastructure opportunities.
KNR Constructions Working Capital, Debt and Capex (Q1 FY27)
Working-capital requirements increased during Q1 FY27, while the standalone balance sheet remained debt-free. At the consolidated level, debt primarily reflects project-level financing within infrastructure SPVs.
- Standalone working-capital days: 133 days as of June 2026, compared with 78 days in March 2026.
- Standalone debt: Nil as of 30 June 2026.
- Consolidated debt: Around Rs 1,975 crore, compared with Rs 2,438 crore in March 2026.
- Standalone cash: Around Rs 310 crore.
- Consolidated cash: Around Rs 435 crore.
- Irrigation receivables: Around Rs 1,450 crore, including approximately Rs 1,300 crore relating to Telangana Package 4.
- Q1 FY27 capex: Around Rs 14 crore.
- FY27 capex guidance: Around Rs 350-400 crore, with mining equipment expected to account for a major portion.
Receivable collection, particularly from irrigation projects, and the timing of mining-related capex will therefore be important drivers of cash flow and working-capital requirements during FY27.
KNR Constructions Mining Business and Capex
Commercial mining is becoming a significant new business for KNR Constructions. Its large order values provide long revenue visibility, but mining also requires substantially higher equipment investment than conventional road EPC execution.
- Kusmunda project period: Eight years.
- Banhardih project: Execution remains dependent on further regulatory and forest clearances.
- FY27 mining revenue: Management indicated around Rs 150 crore, subject to the timing of mobilisation at Kusmunda.
- Kusmunda revenue potential: Management indicated around Rs 400 crore annually once operations scale up.
- Banhardih revenue potential: Around Rs 500 crore annually was discussed after commencement.
- Mining equipment requirement: Kusmunda may require around Rs 500-600 crore of equipment over the project period.
- Mining profitability: Management stated that bidding assumptions considered PAT margins of more than 6%.
Mining could therefore add a more recurring, long-duration revenue stream, although its economics will depend on equipment utilisation, mobilisation timing, clearances and project execution.
KNR Constructions Management Commentary and Outlook (Q1 FY27)
Management expects FY27 to remain a transition year as recently secured HAM and mining projects move into execution. A larger contribution from these projects is expected from the second half of the year.
- FY27 revenue guidance: Around Rs 2,200-2,300 crore.
- FY27 EBITDA margin guidance: Around 8-9%.
- H2 FY27 margin: Management expects EBITDA margin of around 11-12% as HAM and mining execution increases.
- FY28 revenue aspiration: More than Rs 3,000 crore, subject to project execution.
- FY28 EBITDA margin: Management discussed a range of around 11-12%.
- Pipeline revenue in FY27: Around Rs 300-400 crore.
- Irrigation revenue in FY27: Around Rs 200 crore.
- Diversification: Management is selectively evaluating railways, elevated metro, urban mobility and other infrastructure opportunities while maintaining discipline on project returns.
The key factors to monitor are the start of new HAM projects, Kusmunda mining mobilisation, order inflows, recovery of irrigation receivables, working-capital normalisation and whether stronger H2 execution supports the guided improvement in operating margins.
